Challenge
Many women migrating from northern regions to work in Accra’s commercial markets live in temporary stalls, leaving their young children exposed without access to basic meals, shelter, or formal schooling.
Without intervention, these vulnerable children face harsh living conditions and lack early childhood educational opportunities.
Solution
SAF supports the Mallam Atta Market Home School, providing safe day care, basic education, textbooks, daily meals, and biannual medical visits to over 100 children aged 1.5 to 15 years.
In partnership with Amandi, SAF funded major structural renovations—building modern classrooms, kitchen facilities, toilets, and baths—and continues to offer transition scholarships for mainstream schooling.
